About Cindy
"I have always had a passion for working with people, which led me to pursue a degree in Journalism, graduating with a Bachelor of Journalism from Rhodes University in 2014. Thereafter, I worked in the news industry for organisations including the SABC, News24, and Eyewitness News.
In 2019, I pivoted into the online education industry, initially working as a video producer and, after further upskilling, as an instructional designer. During this time, I collaborated with both local and international universities to design short courses for continuous learning.
Working in EdTech reignited my own desire to learn, leading me to pursue my LLB through UNISA in 2021. I view a career in the legal profession as the culmination of my journey—an ideal space to combine my passion for people with my core skills in research, analysis, and critical writing.
My ultimate goal is to become a people-centred lawyer who empowers clients to actively engage in the legal matters that affect their lives."

Cindy's tips for PVT students
"Successfully navigating the 150-hour programme requires a disciplined approach to time management. I quickly learned that one should never underestimate the sheer volume of work involved. My best advice is to treat your study sessions and lecture times as fixed, non-negotiable appointments by actively scheduling them into your calendar well in advance.
A strategy that worked exceptionally well for me was utilising the provided course notes before each session. Reviewing these materials prior to watching the recordings meant I could engage with the content on a much deeper level. This preparation allowed me to move beyond basic comprehension and instead focus on the lecturers' rich practical insights and industry experience.
To ensure a smooth professional and academic balance, I recommend setting recurring weekly reminders for all deliverables to prevent any deadlines from being overlooked."
On facing challenges
"I have always been an advocate for continuous learning, but starting over after ten years in a different career is undeniably daunting. Pivoting into law meant confronting self-doubt and imposter syndrome at times."

What's next?
"My main focus right now is successfully passing my competency-based examinations, and I am incredibly grateful for the strong foundation the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law has provided to help me prepare.
As I move through my candidacy, I am excited to explore various practice areas, particularly deceased estates and conveyancing. I fully intend to enroll in the Gawie le Roux Course in conveyancing in the near future!"
