This course is ideal for legal secretaries and legal assistants (paralegals) working in a civil litigation department, in other words, for a ‘litigation’ attorney or an advocate. It will broaden your understanding of civil litigation and civil procedure and enable you to improve your performance as a paralegal in this field of the law.
What does civil litigation and procedure mean?
Civil litigation is the process of resolving legal disputes between two or more private parties. These parties may be natural persons (individuals) or juristic persons (such as companies). Attorneys who specialise in civil litigation are known as ‘litigators’. They represent one of the parties at a trial. Civil procedure is the body of law that sets out the rules, principles and practices by which courts conduct civil trials. Civil litigation and civil procedure go hand in hand.
This course can be taken separately from any of our other specialised courses for paralegals, which can be taken in any sequence. Each course represents a highly specialised field and can therefore help you to hone the skills already required of you in your current role or upskill you to advance to another position within a law firm.
