AI in law and the legal field
Artificial intelligence (AI) has broken free from science-fiction novels and moved into boardrooms, classrooms, and now courtrooms. Yet the technology also raises thorny questions about ethics, bias, professional competence, and even job security. This article unpacks how modern AI is reshaping South African legal practice, the benefits, pitfalls to avoid, and pragmatic steps every firm should be taking right now.

What is a fidelity fund certificate?
South Africa's legal profession enjoys a high level of public trust, but that trust does not exist in a vacuum. It is underpinned by statutory safeguards designed to protect clients from the misappropriation of funds held in trust by attorneys. One of the most important safeguards is the fidelity fund certificate (FCC). Without a valid FFC, no legal practitioner may receive or deal with trust money, and any firm that does so risks heavy penalties, de-registration, and, most damaging, loss of reputation.
