What I enjoyed most about this subject is that it actually feels useful and highly relevant to the real world. The fact that it covers topics such as ransomware attacks, email scams and even AI hallucinating fake case law, which has actually gotten an attorney into trouble, made it very interesting to study. I also appreciated the practical tips, such as verifying bank details before making a payment and using multi-factor authentication, which I can see myself using as an attorney one day. It really opened my eyes to how vulnerable law firms can be and made me realise that cybersecurity is not just an IT issue, but also forms part of our ethical duty as future legal professionals. I didn't like trial very much because I have anxiety when I have to speak in front of people but after Dr Gravett explained that it's not about who can scream the loudest I felt more confident in myself. He was very easy to follow. Normally I have to go back and read everything I detail after sessions but with Dr Gravett, it was like knowledge I had known for years because he was so thorough and clear with his explanations. As this was my first in-person subject, I truly enjoyed being present at the lectures and interacting with the rest of the students and with Dr Curlewis. Criminal procedure has always been one of my favourite fields of law and it was interesting to hear the questions and opinions of my fellow students. As Dr Curlewis was also one of my lecturers at UP, he is a master in the criminal procedure field and I have always admired his skills and knowledge. The GLR PVT personnel also provided a welcoming environment at the venue and made a lot of effort to treat us with snack platters and coffee during tea breaks. It felt more like a 3-day formal conference! I would definitely recommend to all future GLR PVT students to attend the in-person lectures, as it is absolutely worth the while.
