About Amy

"I did a BCom law and LLB degree at the University of the Western Cape

I am currently doing my articles at STBB.  Working in practice has been a completely different experience from studying at university.  Every day presents new challenges and learning opportunities, and I have really enjoyed seeing how the law works in practice."

On enrolling at the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law

"I chose Gawie le Roux because I have heard great things about the programme from my colleagues at work.  What stood out to me was the focus on practical training rather than just theory, which made me feel more prepared for practice.

The lecturers were one of the best parts of the 150-hour programme.  I appreciated that they didn’t just teach the law, but they shared practical advice and examples from their own careers, which made the learning experience much more valuable."

Amy's tips for PVT students

  • "Go into it with an open mind and make the most of every opportunity.
  • Ask questions, participate as often as you can, and don’t just focus on getting through the course.
  • The more effort you put into the practical exercises, the more you’ll get out of them.
  • Also, try to stay on top of the work as you go.  It is much easier than leaving everything until the last minute."

The top achiever award

"I’ll definitely be using my voucher to continue investing in my professional development, especially because I want to be a conveyancer.  I will be using the voucher for courses that will help me with exam preparation."

On facing challenges

"Balancing the programme with my responsibilities as a Candidate Attorney was definitely challenging at times.  There were busy periods at work where it felt like there weren’t enough hours in the day.

I managed it by planning ahead, sticking to a schedule as much as possible, and reminding myself why I enrolled in the programme in the first place.

Looking back, it was worth the effort."

What's next?

"My next goal after board exams is to qualify as a conveyancer.  Property law is an area that really interests me, and I would like to continue developing my knowledge and skills in the field."
