Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about our Course in notarial practice

Monday, August 15, 2022, 12:32
I have no knowledge of and have had no exposure to notarial practice. Will the course help me?

Absolutely!  The course is designed with the assumption that participants have little to no prior exposure to notarial work.  In fact, many of our students start with no background in notarial practice, and they successfully pass the exam.  Lack of experience should not discourage you - sometimes, having no prior assumptions makes it easier to absorb new information.

Do you have any proof that your courses lead to success?

Yes, we have numerous success stories.  Many of our students, who initially had no knowledge of notarial practice, have passed the exams with the help of our courses.  You can read their testimonials for further proof of the effectiveness of our courses.

What is the difference between ‘Zoom lectures', ‘recordings’ and ‘self-study’?

We offer three flexible study options:

  1. Online lectures:  Live sessions where a lecturer explains the material and guides you through the study notes.  You can interact with the lecturer, ask questions, and gain direct support.
  2. Recordings:  If online attendance is difficult, you can receive recordings of the lectures and listen to them at your convenience.  This option provides the same structured guidance without needing to attend in real-time.
  3. Self-study:  With this option, you will receive comprehensive notes designed for independent study.  It’s ideal for those who prefer to learn at their own pace without the need for lectures.
Which study option should I choose?

Each option will offer you adequate support in preparing for the conveyancing examination.  It all depends on your circumstances and preferences.

  1. We recommend either the Zoom lectures or the recordings of the lectures as equally valuable options.  Both options will accelerate your learning and improve your understanding of the work.  The lectures will make your studies much easier because we guide you through a lot of information and explain difficult concepts.  In the lectures, we also direct your attention to important aspects of the material.
  2. However, if you feel confident about studying on your own at your own pace, the self-study option is also sufficient to enable you to pass this exam.  In fact, the course notes were originally developed for home-study purposes and have helped many candidates to pass over the years.  The lecturers are just an additional tool for those who want guidance, as explained above.
As far as attendance is concerned, is it possible to learn about notarial practice in only five online sessions?

Yes, it is possible because our notes are excellent.  Our attendance course (Zoom lectures) is note-driven rather than lecture-driven.  This means that during the lectures we guide you through our comprehensive set of notes. However, after the lectures, you will still have to work very hard to prepare for the examination.  We achieve great success with this method.  The fact that the online course is presented online in five sessions makes it possible for people from various parts of the country to attend the course.  Candidates make this a week of intensive study in preparation for the examination.

What technology do I need to access the Zoom lectures?

You will need a stable internet connection and a device capable of accessing video calls (such as a computer or tablet).  Specific details on the platform used for lectures will be provided upon registration.

What happens if I miss a Zoom lecture?

If you are unable to attend a live session, you will still have access to the recordings of the lectures.  This allows you to review the material at your own pace.

Are the notes updated regularly?

Yes, our notes are updated annually, and sometimes more often, to reflect changes in the notarial field. Once you register for the course, you’ll be notified whenever an update is available. Many professionals continue to use our notes as a reference even after they’ve passed the exam.

How much time is needed to prepare for the examination?

Preparation time varies based on individual ability and available time.  Typically, we recommend setting aside 3 to 5 months for study.  However, some students have managed to pass with less preparation time, depending on their commitment and effort.

What is the percentage needed to pass the exam?

50%.  Please see the LPC's syllabus.

Can you guarantee that I will pass if I do any of your courses?

While we cannot guarantee a pass, we are confident that our course gives you the best chance to succeed.  Your success depends on your effort, but our courses have helped countless students achieve their goals.

Can one pass the examination without an oral?

Yes.  See the LPC's syllabus.

How long is the exam, and how many papers do I need to write?

The exam consists of one paper, written in one session.  Please refer to the LPC's syllabus for detailed information.

What are the examination fees and where do I register for the examination?

Consult the LPC for the current examination fee.  You must register three weeks before the exam in the province where you will write the exam.

May I write the exam in another province?

Yes, under certain conditions.  Consult the LPC for conditions and permission.

When will I receive the study material?

Once payment is confirmed, your study materials will be sent via PostNet, and you will receive a tracking number.  The process typically takes 3-4 working days.  Alternatively, you can collect your notes from our office in Lynnwood, Pretoria, one working day after payment.

When should I request a pro-forma invoice?

Only request a pro-forma invoice if your company is paying for your course.  All prices are on our website or brochures (downloadable from our website).
