About Kayla

"I’m a Conveyancing and Deceased Estate Paralegal at Boqwana Burns Inc.

I finished Matric in 2022 in Johannesburg and started working in February 2023 in Port Elizabeth with no experience in the conveyancing department.  I learned the basics and the transfer process from the conveyancer before I started joining Gawie le Roux’s online courses.  I used the knowledge I gained from the conveyancer to make my own notes on aspects from different scenarios."

On enrolling at the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law

"Our conveyancer was doing courses through Gawie le Roux and decided to send me to do the online courses.  The aim was to build up my knowledge regarding the process and to assist with more things where needed.

The lecturer was approachable, knowledgeable, and always willing to provide clarity whenever needed.  The course material and notes are excellent as a long-term resource that you can refer to whenever you need guidance.  I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to build or expand their conveyancing knowledge."

On facing challenges

"I faced a professional challenge when I did the Bonds trajectory.  In my three years of working, I have never worked with bond registrations or bond cancellations, making this an entirely new area for me.

Initially, I lacked confidence and was uncertain whether I would succeed.  However, the lecturer presented the material in a practical and engaging manner, using numerous real-life scenarios that made the concepts much easier to understand.

I successfully completed the course and achieved a result of 98%."

Kayla's practical tips for paralegals

  • "What helped me regarding the online lectures was to have some background in conveyancing before doing the lectures.  It helped me put all the missing pieces together to form a more complete picture.
  • Always make notes in the book they provide.
  • Ask for assistance where needed."

Key takeaways

  • "How to liaise with clients regarding all aspects of the work and maintain clear communication between all parties.
  • The cover pages they provide help to make your file neat for the conveyancer and other firm members.  Accuracy in the conveyancing department requires strict attention to all details, as errors in documents might occur.
  • Time management and process control matter.  A property transfer involves many interdependent steps and deadlines.  You need to be able to work under pressure and multitask when the conveyancer needs anything."
